Meet this IMMUNE BOOSTING plant!

Last winter when my immune system felt low, I was doing as much research as possible into ways that I could support myself to stay strong, fight the circulating coughs and colds and to have more energy (which can be challenging with a little person who doesn't love to sleep at night!)

I came across the herb Astragalus, ordered some tea, and it felt soooo good for my system. A regimen of astragalus before the colder months of winter is said to prevent or decrease the number of colds and upper respiratory illnesses individuals will have throughout the season.

Recently I had a session with my incredible, insightful homeopath Laura Bull and she reminded me of this herb... everyday since our session I have been drinking just 1 cup of astragalus tea, and I really believe it has made me feel stronger, less congested, and more relaxed!!

Astragalus increases immunity -is an adaptogen with anti inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti- inflammatory anti-oxidative and antiviral properties-

It is also used to treat arthritis, asthma, and nervous conditions as well as to lower blood sugar and blood pressure.

There are a number of ways to use astragalus root medicinally. Astragalus is currently used as an addition to conventional treatments and should not be used as a replacement for medications unless suggested by a doctor.

Astragalus is available at most Chinese markets or health food stores in these forms:

  • Tincture (liquid alcohol extract)
  • Capsules and tablets
  • Injectible forms for use in hospital or clinical settings in Asian countries
  • Topically for the skin
  • Dried and used in tea

My favourite way to consume it (so far) is dried, as a tea- the root is so pretty!

Just 1 cup per day is recommended, especially in times when you feel you need an extra boost!

I would love to know if this is something that you have already stumbled across, and whether you think you might like to try it!!

I think it is well worth looking into!

Here is to staying fit, strong and fabulous this autumn!!

Lots of love, Rachael x
